Worth $800 million , Biden announces security assistance to Ukraine today

Today, US President Joe Biden is expected to announce an additional $800 million in security assistance to Ukraine, according to Reuters, citing a White House official.

The announcement of the additional aid will be on the same day that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addresses the US Congress in a video address.

The US official, who asked not to be identified, said that this announcement raises “the total (aid) that was announced last week only to one billion dollars.”

In his speech to US lawmakers, Zelensky is expected to renew his pleas for more aid, while some are pressing the White House to take a more assertive stance on the Russian invasion.

Yesterday, the US State Department announced the provision of more than $186 million in additional humanitarian aid to support internally displaced persons and more than three million refugees affected by Russia’s “deliberate and unjustified” war in Ukraine, according to a statement by Minister Anthony Blinken.

This money will provide more support for humanitarian organizations responding to the crisis and complement the generosity of neighboring countries that welcome and support refugees, Blinken said.
